A Brief Biography of Abraham Lincoln - 620 Words

Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Kentucky, United States of America and died on April 15, 1865. Throughout his life, Abraham showed an excessive amount of influence on not only the U.S.A. but the whole world. I have made this biography to tell about the life of this international hero. Abraham was an only child who grew up in poverty with his father, Thomas Lincoln, who was a carpenter and mother, Nancy Hanks, who died in 1818. Shortly after Nancy’s death, Thomas married Sarah Johnston, a widow, who was a loving mother for Abraham. As a boy, Abraham attended almost no official schooling but taught himself to read small books with the encouragement of his step-mother. In 1831, when Abraham was 22, he settled in the village of New Salem, near Springfield where he started working at a store and managing a mill. At this time Abe was a whopping 6 ft 4, 190 cm tall, thin young man, who became very popular to the citizens of the town for his strength and flair in storytelling, but mostly for his strength of character. His capability and sincerity won him respect that was increased by his ability to keep his own in the hardest society. He was chosen captain of a volunteer unit containing 60 to 200 soldiers gathered for the Black Hawk War in 1832, but they did not get to serve in combat. Returning to New Salem, Lincoln was a partial owner of a grocery store that had failed, leaving him with a heavy dept. GPS provides precision in computing the velocity, position and time. We will write a custom essay sample on The Global Positioning System or any similar topic only for you Order Now Although, it is subsidized and maintained by Department of Defense, the civil users across the world use it, at free of cost for various purposes.TechnologyGPS consists of three segments namely, the satellite or the space segment, user segment and the control segment. The space segment consists of satellites, the user segment are the GPS receivers and the control segment helps to monitor the satellite operations. There are five control units to monitor the proper functioning of the satellites, and they are stationed in Krasnosnamensk (Moscow), Schtscholkowo (Moscow), Komsomolsk (Russia), St. Petersburg (Florida) and Ternopil (Ukraine). The location of the user is determined by the line of visibility of four or more satellites and measured by two factors: pseudorange and carrier phase. Usually three satellites points to the coordinates of the user and the fourth is for the user’s clock error. The GPS tracking system which is augmented by Low Earth Orbit (LEO) which is orbiting at an altitude closest to the earth’s surface provides comprehensive internet access to remote areas even with low intensive users. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or drones having integrates sensors and GPS receivers uses multicopter technology to fly and capture photos and videos. The drones are capable in identifying objects and avoiding collisions and quickly react to the environmental disturbances like wind, tress, buildings by adjusting their position and movements accordingly. Most importantly, the multicopters have an automatic landing when there is an interruption of signals. UsesWhen people affected by Dementia or Alzheimer’s are lost, the GPS tracking device helps to locate the person. The devices are available in various forms to wear them as watch or as pendant around the neck or in the soles of shoes and or can be even attached to the clothing of the patient. Apparently, to avoid restricting such people within nursing homes, it maximised the autonomy and protected them from getting lost. Perhaps, these devices not only help to monitor the location of the person but has fall sensors to alert the caregiver in case of an emergency. The usage of drones in live sports telecasting is an added advantage giving stunning views and movements to the spectators. As they are smaller in size and less noisy, the drones are able to manoeuvre and get some closer shots which helps in decision making in the corresponding sport.Materials and MethodsResultsConclusionOver the years, there will be a paradigm shift for business running with GPS technologies by Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS) or Galileo. GLONASS was the system developed by the Soviet Union whereas Galileo by the Europe Union (Rizos, 2003). Television, Which Was Only In Nine Percent Of American Households In 1

Television, which was only in nine percent of American households in 1950, is now in ninety-eight percent of them. America is the world leader in real crime and violence, which some scientists attribute to the imaginary violence we see on TV. All Americans, regardless of race, religion, gender, age, or social economic group, have been bound together by the shared cultural experience of television, but how does mass media influence people? In particular, does television violence cause aggression? There are many different points of view concerning aggression caused from television violence. A few of these social psychology theories include the Arousal theory, the Social Learning theory, the Disinhibition theory, and the Aggression Reduction theory. On the other hand, some believe the children who are prone to brutality are also drawn to violent shows because they are predisposed to aggression. The Arousal theory states that exposure to television violence increases aggression because violence increases excitation, or arouses its viewers. The Social Learning theory says that ways of behaving are learned by observing others, and that this is a major means by which children acquire unfamiliar behavior. This theory also leads us to expect that children who see fictional characters on television glamorized or rewarded for their violent conduct will not only learn those behaviors but will also be more likely to perform them themselves when given the chance. The Disinhibition theory declares that television violence in certain circumstances will result in increased interpersonal aggression because it weakens inhibitions against such behavior. The last point of view, Aggression Reduction states that under certain conditions exposure to television violence will reduce subsequent aggression. Children are watching, on average, close to twenty-eight hours of television every week. On an average that is 1,456 hours in a single year. By the time a child leaves elementary school, they have witnessed approximately 8,000 murders on television. Surprisingly, cartoons contain the most violence, roughly eighteen acts of aggression every hour. The most recent evidence suggests that by the time they are twelve years old, the average child will have witnessed 100,000 acts of violence on TV. Children's programs are the least likely of all television programs to show the long-term negative consequences of violence. Children who view shows, in which violence is very realistic, frequently repeated or left unpunished, are more likely to imitate what they see. The negative consequences of violence are not often portrayed in violent programming. In fact, only four percent of violent programs emphasize and anti-violent theme. Violence prevails in eight out of every ten shows. Moreover, an av erage of five or six violent incidents occurs each hour. On the positive side however, television violence is usually not explicit or graphic. Forty-four percent of the shows on network stations contain at least some violence compared with fifty-nine percent on basic cable, and eighty-five percent on premium cannels like HBO and ShowTime. According to a survey conducted by U.S. News and the University of California of Los Angeles with many top level Hollywood figures, forty-five percent of the Hollywood elite say the overall quality of TV programming has worsened in the past decade. Ironically, there is presently little evidence indicating that violence enhances program popularity. America is the world leader in real crime and violence. Some scientists attribute this to the imaginary violence we see on TV. The impact of TV violence may be immediately evident in a child's behavior, as was the case a few years ago in which a five year old boy set his home on fire, killing his two year old sister because of an episode of Bevis and Buthead or may surface years later. According to research, media violence causes children to act more aggressively, cultivates attitudes that are excessively distorted, frightening, and pessimistic, and desensitizes children to violence. Children who view shows, in which violence is very realistic, frequently repeated, of left unpunished, are more likely to imitate what they see. There is a general consensus among social scientists that television violence increases the propensity to real life aggression among some viewers. Evidence suggests that violence on television is potentially dangerous, in that it serves as a model for behavior, especially for children. Children who spend their after school time alone because parents work will

Theme in Paper Topics and Sonnets

Theme in Paper Topics and Sonnets'Out Of The Mouth Of The Whale' by John Donne is the subject of this lesson. After reading about Donne's poetry, we'll discuss the importance of his paper topics and sonnets. These are the topics he chooses to address in his poetry.Sonnets are poems that address the joys and sorrows of a person's life. The theme of these papers is one of the most important themes found in all Donne's writings. As the poet states, he is writing about the sea, but is writing about the sea in a particular way. In other words, he is writing about himself and the world in which he lives. This is why 'The Lord is my shepherd,' (I Timothy 6:5) is a statement that John Donne makes when he says he is addressing himself to God.Many of the topics are about love and also reflect events in the poet's daughter's life. These happenings include tragedies, struggles, joys, and even the passing of his daughter. These all contribute to the cycle of life as the lines 'slowly are our rive r's quiet' (Sonnet 32). The verse goes on to say that all of these are part of a thing that is called 'love.'In 'The True Nature of the River,' we read about a river that has flowed 'since the hour of its birth' and yet 'its nature changes, the change is its nature.' As the poet reads the line, 'though it floweth slow it cometh' he is acknowledging the changing nature of the river. 'All my life long' is one of the most famous lines in his poetry and is a reflection of the poet's own experience in life.In 'The Symphony,' the poet explains, 'All things are breathing' and the poem talks about how it feels to be breathing, but how there is no air to be found. In that vein, the poet mentions in the poem that there is a flowing on all sides of the poet's 'mouth.' The poet is talking about the fact, 'He is breathing' but there is no air, only the sound of water.Water is the most common topic for poems and is perhaps the most important topic in all of Donne's writings. Since water is used i n all of his poetry, we will look at all of Donne's poems that include water as a focus point and evaluate the effect that water has on the topics of these poems. The water seems to have a positive effect on all of the topics that are focused on in these poems. For example, Donne states in 'Eastward, forward, without pause' that 'God loves me.'Also, we read in 'Thunderstorm,' where the poet notes that 'his eyes did behold the tears fall like rain'the tears were falling down on the ground;' 'God be thanked,' and 'every tear.' The tears were falling down on the ground, which reflects the hope for the future that can be found in the life of a person who grieves over his or her losses. The word 'Eternally' is written in 'Passion' and it makes sense to include this in a discussion of themes. As the poet states in the song, 'Falling fast with love, I will rise and fall again.' He states that he is falling and rising again.
